Even there is a mandatory requirement to e-filing of individuals whose total income exceeds Rs 5,00,000, total number of e-filings lags behind as compared with the financial year 2012-2013(21486807) with financial year 2013-2014(till 31st July) 10321775.
When it comes to e-filing through ITR-1(salaried individuals), there is also a drop down of 628629 and it stands on 5781252 as on 31st July, 2013,earlier it was 6409881.In the case of Individuals and HUFs not having Income from Business or Profession (ITR-2), it stands at 1479280,2240995 was earlier.
It is expected that there will be a hike in number of e-returns as the due date is extended to 5th August, 2013. A maximum of around 1 lakh returns are filed per hour, as disclosed by IT-Department. Maharashtra is still leading on number of e-filings made (2187712) as on 31st July, 2013 followed by Karnataka (963435) and Gujarat (939755).
